LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
If this week’s action in the NFL is any indication of what’s in store for us this year it’s going to be a crazy season, most likely absolutely nuts. That being said, the college games are also adding up to be pretty unpredictable and down right shocking. However we should all take heart in the fact that it’s very early still and we have a ton of games still left to play. Its the first 10 days of the football season people, don’t loose any sleep over it, yet.
Coaches love to come up with excuses for poor play in the early season. You hear them everywhere. ”We’re shaking off the cobwebs”…”Gonna need to grease some rusty joints”…..”He’s working out the kinks”. Well according to yours truly there are some kinks, cobwebs and rusty joints to be addressed folks. Better in week one then in week eight right?
There were some surprising results in the NFL on Sunday. The New York Giants managed to score zero points in a loss against arch rival Dallas falling 40-zip. Zip as in nada. Zip as in nothing, not one point. Giants fans are having a major meltdown, maybe not as bad as Jets fan but pretty intense non the less. Pittsburgh was heralded as a strong Super Bowl contender all summer and in the pre season and ended up getting humiliated at home against San Francisco Wonder Boy Brock Purdy and a 49 Defensive unit that was both very fast and bone crushing, just ask Nadje Harris. Kenny Pickett looked pathetic. I was not happy. The Browns, shockingly, were able to spank the pants off the Bengals and the highest paid player in the league, QB Joe Burrow, who was actually BENCHED late in the game! It’s week one sports fans and we’re having to witness catastrophic situations of almost Biblical porportions, well, sort of.
With all the craziness of the weekend in mind, nothing could have prepared us for the insanity that was Monday Night Football. On an evening where we remembered the events of 9-11 the New York Jets debuted their new star save all quarterback, 39 year old Arron Rodgers against The Buffalo Bills and the talented Josh Allen. Rogers didn’t last one series and went down with an injury after 4 snaps. An entire summer of anticipation, media ultra hype and the dreams and hopes of millions of New York Jets fans went down with him. A capacity crowd of 87,000 plus watched Rogers being helped off the field and carted into the locker room. It was not a pretty sight. A disastrous start to a purely magical evening. The stadium crowd as well as the national media were literally stunned. In comes Zack Wilson, last year’s first round bust and a stout and motivated Jets defense to deny the Buffalo Bills their glory with several key interceptions and fumble recoveries. Wilson looked shaky but managed to make some key plays and avoid disastrous mistakes. By the end of regulation it was a tie game and a walk off punt return in overtime by a Jets undrafted rookie sent the crowd into a delirium rarely seen in NFL football. To say that the Jets snatched victory from the jaws of defeat would be an understatement. It was a game for the ages on a night of both anguish and joy. It also may have saved the season for the Jets, but as I’ve already mentioned it’s only week 1 right? By the way Bills fans, Josh Allen is now winless in overtime games at 0-5. May the pain pass quickly.
The were of course several bright lights in the weekend of NFL. Miami’s Tua Tongalova managed to play without injury and is now sporting a specially designed helmet, thank the Lord. It must be working because he passed for nearly 450 yards, a record in many ways, and managed to outclass and outperform the San Diego Chargers 36-34. All three rookie quarterbacks making their NFL debut, Bryce Young for The Panthers, Anthony Richardson for The Colts and C.J. Stroud for The Texans suffered their first loss in their first start but managed to avoid injury and showed solid performances. All in all an incredible start to the season and except for the injury to Rogers I’m satisfied about where we’re heading. It’s gonna be a good year.
With all the football news dominating the air waves and streaming feeds the fact that Coco Gauf won her first major at The U.S. Open at the age of 19 seems to have gotten lost in the suffle. Added to that is Novack Djokovic winning his record 24th Grand Slam. For New Yorkers it was an exciting week. Congratulations to another Florida native for bringing home a championship. For Florida the hits just keep on coming. As I mentioned a couple weeks ago she’s playing stronger and more mature then ever. I’m just hoping and praying that the trend continues and flows over to The Dolphins! Play on I Say!!!
