I Must Talk About Week 1 In College Football Was It Game on Or Not?

Ok, first things first people. Everyone needs to just sit back, take a deep breath and relax. Remember, it’s only week number one and we have like 12 more weeks of college football to go, more if you figure in the Colligiate National Title. If this weekend’s craziness was any indication of things to come it’s going to be very long, very fluid season. The Heisman Trophy winner has not yet been selected. The last four teams standing are as far away as the moon right now. So, just relax. Sit back and enjoy the show.

Speaking of shows there were many teams that put in a show this weekend. It’s not clear yet if any of these displays will pan out into a meaningful season. There we’re some huge beat downs and several upsets.  The University of Oregon scored a whopping 81 points against a hapless Portland State who managed to score only one touchdown and no I’m not handing them the Trophy yet. Southern California won 66 to 14 against Nevada with last years Heisman winner Caleb Williams who looked amazing but then the Heisman voting is in November I think so a few months left to go in that department then of course there ‘s The University of Colorado coached by the ever humble, ever descrete Dione Sanders who were a three touchdown underdog but managed to squeeze out a win after giving up 42 points to Texas Christian University. By the way, I had the under in that game and got crushed. Thanks a lot Prime Time, I’m a real fan!

There were a lot of cream puff games this weekend. and one huge upset as Duke University was able to defeat Clemson in a historic win 28 to 7. Then there was Alabama playing Middle Tennessee, Oklahoma against Arkansas State, Notre Dame up against powerhouse Tennessee State, Ole Miss taking on Mercer. Anyone see a trend here? Week one should get a pass completely. Some of these games are just a full speed practice considering the match ups. All in all still an exciting week for college ball but I’m not gonna get too hyped up yet. Let the national media feast on some big nothing burgers with Colorado and Alabama for a couple of weeks then call me in October when things get serious.

It’s finally gotten serious in the NFL. This is it, this is the week. We’re finally gonna see what the teams are made of after a long summer of rumor, speculating and guessing.

There is however some reservations with some teams. Frankly I’m a bit concerned about The Bengals and the situation with Joe Burrow. No one can say if he’s hurt or not and no one is admitting if he’ll be ready week one. Look for this to be an issue as the week progresses. The bottom line with injuries is that everyone wants to see the super stars play. Having a top quarterback in the league out during the first weeks of the season is not how you want to begin.

Thursday night is going to give the world a jump start of the NFL season when the The Chiefs take on The Detroit Lions. Contrary to many people I like this match up. The lions finished strong last season and frankly I’m starting to think that Kansas City is a bit full of themselves. It’s hard not to pick the surging Lions when they are getting points and besides KC is not 100 percent with one or two key contract hold outs in their roster. No one thought Duke could beat Clemson right? I like the underdog. I’ll take The Lions getting 6.5!

The U.S. Open Tennis Championship is heading into its final week and there are 4 Americans in the quarterfinals. The big name obviously for Florida residents is Coco Gauf, a resident of Delray Beach. Needless to say I like, absolutely love, Coco’s chances this week of winning it all. She’s playing lights out tennis right now and riding a high after winning two tournaments this summer. Coco is not a kid anymore. She looks stronger and more mature then ever. She’s in control of her emotions. When she’s down she bounces back with a vengeance. Let’s hope the trend continues. With a big Florida State upset over LSU this past Saturday I would say that her karma to win is trending right now for The State of Florida. Now let’s hope The Dolphins can follow suit. Play On I Say!!
