LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
August 1st 2022
It’s that time of year again, the time of year when everything looks, smells, and feels like football. If you are a fanatic like I am, this is the dawn of our season. It is the beginning of your emergence from the summer doldrums. The NBA season has concluded. NHL teams are on vacation and Major League Baseball will continue through the fall. Personally, I’ve managed to pass my summers sporting time by dabbling on a horse race or two, occasionally I tuned into a European tournament, but now I can feel it coming, it’s around the corner, it’s time to get ready and get serious, it’s football time.
For months now we have suffered through transfer rumors, contract negotiations, trade offers and rookie draft deals. We’ve been buried in all the information thrown at us by the major sports media outlets. We’ve seen the draft picks, we know the contract amounts, we’ve studied the final rosters.
It’s time to end the boredom. It’s time to end the pain. It’s time to let the games begin.
Some thoughts that have been on my mind regarding both the college and pro games;
1. The impact of NIL should be significant. How will it change the locker room atmosphere when all players are no longer equal? Some get paid(a lot) and some make zero(not a lot). Gone are the days of the “men, we’re all equal here” speeches. It’s remains to be seen what the impact will be. As an almost totally unregulated facet of the college game, it’s pretty much a “learn as you go” situation.
2. There are rumors afloat if a “Super Conference “. Either the SEC or The Big Ten depending on which side of the Mississippi you find yourself. One thing is for sure: Universities don’t jump conferences for tradition or an isolated fan base. Follow the money on this one.
3. There are some spectacular players out there this year. I like looking and following the sleepers. The transfer portal will allow many over looked players to shine.
My Prediction: The Heismen Winner won’t have an NIL agreement.
1. The more things change the more they stay the same. There’s been a ton of movement due to free agency over the off season however and that alone should make things interesting this season. There’s too many transfers to list. Teams with special players are shelling out huge amounts of money to keep them. Hopefully they’ll find it will pay off. I live the rookies class this season and can’t wait to see who becomes a starter. I have a feeling that Kenny Pickett will be fantastic.
2. Tom Brady has remained on the Tampa Bay roster, again. That alone makes the Bucs an instant contender. I really feel the Bills were a coin toss away from being Super Bowl Champions last year. I also like the Rams, The Cardinals, Denver and of course The Chiefs. I do believe however that defensive coordinaters around the league are figuring out Patrick Mahomes which will make him less of a threat. You got to admit, when it’s Go Time Mahomes delivers. My sleeper team is The Steelers.
3. If The Dolphins don’t make the playoffs this year, I’ll have to seek therapy. That’s the Tweet. 3. If The Dolphins don’t make the playoffs this year, I’ll have to seek therapy. That’s the Tweet.
My Prediction: The Patriots will deep in the playoffs.
