Once Again March Madness Is Over, What Can I Say That Justifies This Annual Basketball Exhibition Of Young Talent, Upsets And All Arguably, The Cream Rose To The Top, Coagulations UCONN

Another college basketball season and March Madness Tournament has come and gone. Somehow I’ve managed to survive. As is in many years in the past, calling it March Madness has been a bit of an understatement. It seems to me that as each year goes by the tournament gets crazier and crazier. At this point I may lobby congress to give us an additional national holiday! There are more and more upsets, more compelling off court stories and more dramatic finishes then ever before. I feel like I’ve just watched a full football season, regular season, playoffs and Championship Game and Superbowl all compacted into a three week time frame. I’m drained, I need a break from yelling and screaming and crying and trash talking basketball games. I need to rehabilitate relationships with friends and co workers and somehow let my boss’s wife know that I didn’t really mean what I said about Alabama Basketball. It may or may not work, athletic alliances run deep in The South. I’m sure I have some serious work cut out for me.

The final match up between UConn and San Diego State University was a bit anti climatic after three weeks of upsets and last second shockers. The Huskies rolled over a very flat San Diego State team. UConn winning 76-59 now makes the program a top tier blue blood basketball school if it wasn’t one before. Personally I would have liked to have seen a match up that included either Florida Atlantic University or The University of Miami in the mix but it wasn’t meant to be. Both of these teams fared extremely well by making it to the Final Four and I’m sure we’ll see the result of their progress in future recruitment efforts. Move over North Carolina, South Florida has now become a basketball factory!

I’m sure that by now a lot of sports fans out their realize that woman’s college basketball has arrived and is here to stay. There are some amazing girls playing basketball right now and their efforts and skills are driving ratings in television and streaming media through the roof. The NCAA Woman’s Basketball Tournament had higher ratings and more viewers then any NBA single basketball game in the last year and we may all find out that the final match up between LSU and Iowa may have out done the men’s final as well. It’s exciting to watch and the rivalry’s are both heated and intense just as in the men’s game. There’s nothing better then watching a good cat fight. With more and more viewers and advertisers paying attention look for woman’s sports to become on par with the men. Hats off to the ladies! Play on I say!

With the college basketball season behind us now it’s time to set our sights on the future sporting events that fill our weekends and evenings until we once again find ourselves knee deep in football. The fall couldn’t come soon enough!

In the very near future of this weekend we have Golf’s greatest spectacle, The Masters, a time honored event that highlights some of the world’s greatest golfers. I’m a huge Tiger Woods fan so I’m hoping for another great showing or maybe even a win! Directly on the heels of this we have The Kentucky Derby, horse racing’s greatest race and many say the greatest 2 minutes in sports. For me, The Derby is an all day event and has been for years. I’ve both won and lost a very small fortune but I usually start looking at horses right about now so as to get a jump on my picks. Additionally, somewhere between all of this we also have The NFL draft which I know many of us are awaiting with ever increasing interest. On top of all this you can mix in The NBA, Major League Baseball and The NHL and you’re set thru the spring so don’t despair, you’ve something to watch every day I’d imagine. I would have to say in conclusion that at least for the next month or two, there’s plenty to occupy our time with sports wise.

I have to confess that I haven’t paid a ton of attention to the NFL in the last week or two. I’ve been occupied by college basketball. I do know however that Arron Rogers is still a Packer and Lamar Jackson is still a Baltimore Raven so those two stories with their associated dramas linger on. Hopefully they’ll resolve their issues soon and we can all get back to the joy of watching them play. With the teams focused primarily on draft day it’s easy to see how the free agency stories are becoming a page three item. Time to get on with it I’d say. And no, Odell Beckham Junior is still without a team. I think Father Time has caught up with OBJ. With each new draft class of receivers his chances get slimmer and slimmer, kind of like an aging stripper. It won’t be long now until next year’s rosters will be set and teams will start practicing. Once the draft is over and rookies are signed we’ll begin to see the makings of next years match ups. I’m looking for big things this year fromThe Bills, The 49ers and The Bengals. Well, maybe not the 49ers but there’s always hope right? I think all these teams have the strength and the personnel to win a Super Bowl. Normally I would throw the Miami Dolphins in this mix as well but to be frank I have huge doubts about the quarterback position. Let’s just hope that Tua can stay healthy and play well. I know, I know, it’s too early to make NFL predictions but frankly I can’t wait for it all to start up again!

Look for new and additional sports articles right here on this website in the near future. I’m addition to my weekly recap of the going’s on in the world of sports I’ll be adding a monthly essay on topics I find most relevant and compelling. At this point I’m trying not to leave anything to chance but there are many issues that I feel are relevant. NIL money in college athletics and the transfer portal and how they have changed college sports comes to light as a hot topic to name just a couple of things I’ll be writing about. Look for it here and remember to play on!
