Sometimes, Talk is cheap and Championships are everything!

Life can come at us very fast, almost too fast and in the sports world, it comes at you fast and furious. One day you’re on top of the world, walking around the locker room with a fat cigar in your mouth, you’re the darlings of the national sports media empire and everyone is singing your praises. The next day you’re walking around picking up the pieces of a once thought to be championship season. You are defeated and your season is over. It’s tough for anyone to predict what life, and sports, will throw at us. Just ask Jason Tatum and The Boston Celtics. All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. So it goes in life and so it went for both The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics who both received a full dose of sporting reality right in the face care of The Denver Nuggets and The Miami Heat. All I can say to them is may the pain pass quickly. Two weeks ago The Lakers could do no wrong. LeBrone James was being anointed the GOAT and given a place on The Mount Rushmore of Pro Basketball. After a dismal start to the season they had managed to sneak into the playoffs and turn it around, or so it seemed. Anthony Davis was healthy for once and playing well, solid performances off the bench were keeping them in the game. I heard words and phrases like “resurrected” and “like a pheniox rising from the ashes”. But it was not meant to be. This is not the Bubble playoffs. For the Lakers, reality showed up in the form of The Denver Nuggets and in a big way. The series was never even close. The world came crashing down on LeBrone and company as they were swept loosing 4 straight to The Denver Nuggets. A pitiful performance. For Denver it will be their first time EVER in an NBA final. I was quite impressed by Denver. Nikola Jokic showed the world why he is a two time MVP. His game isn’t exactly the quickest and most exciting game out there but he puts the ball in the basket against any defender who comes at him and that says a lot. I like Jokic’s style. He doesn’t talk trash, he just plays. Denver has what The Lakers lack, a solid number three man who can come off the bench and compliment the game of Jokic and Jamal Murray. The Lakers are talented but it takes more then Labrone James and Anthony Davis. That being said, The Miami Heat seem to defy all logic and the sceptics as well. It took them a play-in to reach the playoffs. First they dispatched The Milwaukee Bucks, arguably one of the best teams in The NBA this year. Next, they were able to defeat a lackluster New York Knicks squad even without Tyler Hero who is one of their leading scorers, out for the season with a broken wrist. Finally, they quite literally destroyed a Boston Celtics team in a series of three games so far that seemed to break the very will of the favorites to win the championship. Once again, defying the odds makers in Vegas and all expectations, Miami seems poised to win the series even though a desperate and floundering Boston Celtic squad was able to eek out a win denying the Miami Heat a sweep in game 4. Rest assured my friends, The Heat will not be denied, Game 5 awaits. With barely even a mention in the national sports media empire, The Florida Panthers are once again on the verge of playing in the NHL Finals. Along with The Tampa Bay Lightning , Florida now owns Hockey. Eat your heart out Canada. They’re dismantling of The Carolina Hurricanes has gotten them a 3-0 series lead. Apparently, sweeping is now a Florida thing. Let’s hope the referees and officials are better then in game 4 of the Celtics versus Heat series. With a bit of fairness and decent penalty calling the Panthers might be victorious in 4 games on the ice. I’m personally counting down the weeks until football begins both college and pros. The season can’t get here quick enough. With all the winning going on in Florida these days they should just hand the Nation Title to The Florida Gators and The Lombardi Trophy to The Miami Dolphins. News wise not a lot catches my eye on a daily basis now that the Lamar Jackson and Arron Rogers Sagas have been settled. Joe Burrow it seems is sure to become the highest paid quarterback however (Sorry Lamar) when he reaches an extension agreement later this month with the Cincinnati Bengals. Not bad for a kid who had to ride the bench as a third stringer at Ohio State. Jets fans of course have already survived next years 16 game season trounced everyone in the NFL playoffs and lifted the Lombardi Trophy with Arron Rogers at the helm. Sorry but I’m a sceptic on The Jets winning it all but I do welcome the competition. Tom Brady must be bored. Buying into the Raiders as a minority owner should make him pretty famous in Las Vegas but let’s hope Vegas doesn’t ruin his squeaky clean image. What could go wrong in Las Vegas? In the end it’s all about the competition right? It’s sports that keeps us going day in and day out. Love it or hate it we all eat it up. Until next week’s recap I wish you a most entertaining week of sporting events, so as usual I say Play On!!!! Kev
