World Series Is here and some more predictable Football

October 25th 2022 World Series Is here and some more predictable Football This is a great time of the year for sports. It’s very much a do-or-die period for so many teams in so many leagues both college and professional. For some it’s the beginning of a championship quest. For others still it’s a time to reflect on the past 2 months and decide if changes need to be made or to go with the present plan. For a final few it’s a time when the home stretch is visible but not quite in reach. In short ladies and gentlemen, it’s “Go Time”. The stage for The World Series is set. It will be The Houston Astro’s representing the American League vs. The Philadelphia Phillies of The National League. Both teams are playing great baseball right now. Both teams are packed with stars. The Astros burned through the playoffs without loosing one single game. Their pitching staff is red hot right now with their long time ace Justin Verlander leading the way. The Phillies are riding some extremely strong bats with Brice Harper riding a great post season performance. This World Series should be a barn burner, it’s definitely on my “must see” list. My hat goes off to both The New York Yankees and The San Diego Padres. Until next season my friends. I mentioned several weeks ago that the college football transfer portal would bring a lot of changes this year. Looking back I think I can prove myself right by some of the results we’re now seeing mid season. Several players have had huge impacts on the game. Spencer Rattler, once a top prospect at Oklahoma, has led The University of South Carolina to a huge win over Texas A&M, the first ever for the Gamecocks. Bo Nix, once a QB at Auburn just led The Oregon Ducks to a crushing defeat over unbeaten UCLA. Huge win. Quinn Ewers, at one time an Ohio State Buckeye now plays for Texas and although The Longhorns have suffered through a couple of loses Texas is a tough team to beat once again. In the end, The Transfer Portal makes the game better and it helps us pay alot more attention to some great players as all three of these players were once riding the bench at their former schools. I’m all for it. Next week I’ll take a little time to discuss NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) which if you haven’t noticed has not really gotten alot of attention this season. I wonder why? It’s beginning to look like the same four or five teams will be standing at the end of the college football season. Ohio State, Clemson, Tennessee, Michigan and Georgia are all undefeated. Michigan plays Ohio State the last game of the season. Alabama has one loss, to Tennessee, but will be waiting in the wings. TCU, one of the undefeated teams from out West that everyone seems to ignore is strong but gets little attention. Each of these teams have several important games left to play so there may be an upset or two so I’m sure they’ll be one or two one loss teams in the FBS playoffs this year. As for me, I’m waiting for the 12 team expansion in a couple of years. It can’t come quick enough. Seeing the same four or five teams every year is getting to be about as boring as seeing Tom Brady and The Patriots in The Super Bowl every year. Speaking of Tom Brady and The Super Bowl, The NFL is slowly but surely approaching the point of mid season. For many of the nay sayers it is already over for several teams with several more teetering on the brink. Carolina, Jacksonville, Detroit, Houston, Denver and Pittsburgh appear to be out of it for this year as they’ve managed to only sneak out a couple of win games in the first 7 weeks. Arizona, Cleveland, Washington and Las Vegas are not far behind. Injuries continue to plague teams with a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. With the regular season extended well into the new year I’m sure that player’s health will continue to be an issue. Many teams can now start to benefit from a Bye Week but 7 days doesn’t heal a torn ACL. The Bills, The Chiefs and of course the Eagles all look great however I see some spoilers waiting in the wings. No one seems to be talking about the Vikings who are at 5-1 or the Seattle Seahawks who sit at 4-2. Both of these teams are riding a wave of success right now. Then of course there’s The Jets, The Ravens and Tennessee who all lead they’re respective divisions and, depending on what week you catch them, appear to be meshing quite well. Dallas and The Dolphins are also spoilers to watch but I’m encouraging a wait and see attitude with them. It’s a long season, we’re just barely half way home, but if the first 7 weeks are any indication I’d say that it’s over for some and hopeful for others. Let’s hope that players stay healthy and we continue to watch great games. For a closing topic I’d like to mention my feelings on Monday Night and Thursday night NFL football. Monday night football used to be a VERY big deal. It was the only game in town. I’m not sure how, but the games were always competitive, they were exciting, they were always meaningful as fas as the team standing went. Somehow we’ve lost those qualities. No one really watches anymore and if they do it’s light out at half time. I’d be interested in some input into how this can be fixed. Thursday night football, if you have Amazon Prime, has turned into a bust in my opinion. They players seem disinterested. The play is flat with everyone just going through the motions. I really don’t need input on this one. They should just cancel it and be done with it. In the end, Amazon should just stick with sales and leave the football world to the rest of us. Until next week! Play on! Kev
