LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
27th September, 2023
I spent the better part of the last 24 hours trying to make sense of this past week’s football stories. I’ve searched for words to describe the weekend’s events. It hasn’t been easy. The adjectives don’t seem to come easily but I’ll make an attempt describe what has easily been the strangest, craziest week in college and professional football this year and it’s only the the end of September. As expected, Colorado did not fare well in their hugely anticipated match with Oregon. I’m thinking the honeymoon might be over for Deone Sanders and The Buffalos as they fell 42-6 in a game that was a blow out. Colorado looked gassed from the start. Simply put they were overwhelmed by a bigger, faster, better coached team on a much higher level then what they have faced so far. Conversely, Oregon’s Quarterback Bo Nix, a recent transfer from Auburn, may have propelled himself into the Heisman race with a performance that made Deone’s son look like a JV player. Next week Southern Cal visits Boulder. Best of luck to The Buffaloes in that one, they’re gonna need it. The game of the week for serious football fans was Ohio State at Notre Dame. A huge match up between two teams eyeing possibilities of playing in the end of year championship series. Both teams ranked in the top ten, both teams undefeated. A true classic. The game itself was a bit underwhelming the first three quarters. There were of course some excellent plays between two extreamly talented teams. With Notre Dame seemingly in control at the end however The Buckeyes were able to march the entire length of the field and score a touchdown with zero seconds left on the time clock. To say it was a heartbreaking loss for The Irish is an understatement but hey that’s football right? Of course ND having only ten players on the field for the final two plays didn’t help. Somewhere in all of the college football craziness are some teams that have been overlooked by many, myself included. Florida State has managed to pull off upset after upset, first with LSU and most recently with Clemson beating the Tigers at home in overtime. Of course, Georgia, the number 1 team in the nation continues to win with familiar regularity and awaits the rest of the SEC before a championship run that is sure to take place for the third straight year. Can The Bulldogs three-peat? Only time will tell and remember folks it’s only week number 4 so try to sit back and enjoy the games! Week number 3 in The NFL has now come and gone. For me personally there appears no certain front runner that I could point to and say “Super Bowl Contender”. First of all it’s way too early in the season and although some teams are beginning to panic there’s still a lot of time left for teams, players and coaches to redeem themselves, maybe. Three teams remain undefeated. Miami, Philadelphia and San Francisco all look well rounded and if they can stay healthy could easily dominate their respective divisions. They’ve been dominating in all their matchups especially with Miami who this past weekend hung 70 points on Denver (ouch!). Of course San Francisco Wonder Boy Brock Purdy seems to be holding down the fort quite well considering he’s backed up by the top running back in the league and a strong defense. For some strange reason people are expecting more out of Philadelphia then just being undefeated but as long as they also stay healthy and continue to improve as they have been I’ll look for them to be there at the end of the regular season, maybe. There’s 14 more games left folks. That’s a lot of football. There are of course many teams that are 1-2 or 2-1 going into the fourth week. For them the season is still up in the air. Hope is not lost any any of these(except maybe the NY Jets) although if you focus on a recent loss you’d think that their season was nearly over. Teams that are so far winless and going down fast are Chicago, Minnesota, Carolina and Denver. Several of these teams are talking about placement in next years draft selection so you know that they’re looking ahead to not much. I’m really not sure what’s going on in Denver, I’d have to consult a shaman for answers to that one. I’m very happy to report that my picks last week were a 50/50 split. I got absolutely no where with college games but managed to pull off a 100 percent victory in my 2 NFL games! Some people would call this a push however I’m more inclined to call the glass half full instead of half empty! For this week I think I’ll go with USC(-21.5)beating the pants of Colorado and my guys at Notre Dame(-5.5) putting Duke in their place! For what it’s worth it been a great ride so far!
